William Haggerty, born March 1919 in Newark., NJ to Anthony and Martha Haggerty, died October 2, 2021 in Manahawkin.
Mr. Haggerty lived many years in Bloomfield, Harrison, Brick and Barnegat, NJ. He was employed until retirement as school maintenance supervisor for the Essex County Vocational School System in Bloomfield and West Caldwell.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Patricia Repstien of Barnegat and Catherine Millroy of Saylorsburg, PA and by his beloved grandson and his wife, Michael and Michelle Repstien of Middleton, MA and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember "UNCLE BILL."
Mr. Haggerty was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Gladys (Williams), and his brothers Frank, Jim and Bob; sisters May, Peg, Betty and Kitty; his sons-in-law, Bob Repstien and Jim Millroy.
Mr. Haggerty served in the Army as a sergeant during World War II; he was wounded by shrapnel in San Angelo, Italy during the Eastern Africa Campaign and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Bill was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and his large family. He loved to sing the Irish songs and singing along with the music of Bing Crosby, he looked forward to his birthday/St. Pat's party every year. He enjoyed making new and 'old' friends and had a ready smile for everyone he met.
Visitation Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Burial will be Wednesday, October 6th at 11:30 AM at the Bg. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Vet. Mem. Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or a charity of choice.
