Wesley Opdyke Obituary

     Wesley R. Opdyke, 74, beloved husband and adored grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully at home in the early evening of January 7th, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Glen Gardner, NJ, he was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, class of 1966, and served honorably in the NJ National Guard.  Wesley was baptized in, married in, and his children baptized at, historic St. James Lutheran Church (Straw Church) in Phillipsburg, NJ.  Hired at age 22 in 1969 at Jersey Central Power and Light he retired as Chief Lineman 48 years later at age 70.  He and his family moved to Barnegat in 1975. Leisure time was spent enjoying the company of and activities with his three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. From the day each were born he ensured they knew how much they were loved and treasured by him.

     Wesley is survived by Linda, his wife of 52 years, two children, Stephanie Gonzalez, Beach Haven West and Wesley, Jr, Princeton, three grandchildren, John Opdyke, Tuckerton, Jackie Bossbaly, Little Egg Harbor, Caitlin Gonzalez, Waretown, and two great grandchildren who were the absolute light of his life, Jeremy Gonzales, Waretown and Alec Bossbaly, Little Egg Harbor.  Wesley was predeceased by his only sister, Judy, and is survived by his two brothers, Daniel Opdyke, Barnegat, and Edward Opdyke, Oxford.
