Walter "Pete" Peterson
Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our father Walter “Pete” Peterson, 98, of Barnegat, NJ passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Born in San Francisco, CA to his late parents, Jack and Julia Peterson, he is a US Army Veteran of World War II. Walter retired from Western Electric and worked for Ocean County Community College in the grounds and maintenance department until he was 80. He was also an active volunteer and parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Barnegat.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret M. Peterson, his late parents, his brothers Jack, Jr, Robert, Ray and Ernest and sisters Dorothy, Lorraine and Julia. He is survived by two loving children, Kathleen Peterson (Gary Silvestri) and Anthony Peterson (Tracey); four cherished grandchildren, Charlie, Dean, Jack and Shea; his devoted brother, Ronald Peterson of AL; devoted sister, Diane Calleja of CA; his sister-in-law, Frances Pierson; brother-in-law, John Pierson as well as many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Walter’s nickname was “Pete” given to him by his late wife Margaret. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be offered 12 PM Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, 747 West Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Private cremation to follow. Barnegat Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (www.BarnegatFH.com
