Thomas W. McCann

Thomas William McCann of Waretown, NJ passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Southern Ocean Medical Center. He was 77.

Born on Staten Island, NY, Tom was a graduate of Curtis High School, class of 1960. He went on to study mechanical engineering at SUNY  Farmingdale and finished with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 from  Lafayette College. Soon after, he married his beloved Jean Davis and began his career working for York Borg Warner. After working for York for many years, he took a giant step to open his own business McCann, Inc,. later renamed Industrial Cooling Equipment with his business partner, Ken Laufer.  As retirement neared, he had the amazing opportunity to join DynaTech.  There he was a mentor to several young engineers--a job that was his true passion. 

Tom is survived by his loving wife Jean and celebrated 55 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Amy (McCann) Pacifico (husband Ralph), and Kristy (McCann) Vukoder (husband Scott).  His five grandchildren were his pride and joy: Paige, Emma, Geena, Owen, and Elliott.  He also left behind his brother Charlie McCann and wife Martha, along with many other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father and mother Charles and Virginia McCann. With his caring and welcoming personality,  Tom played the role of father, brother,  uncle, and friend to so many more.

Tom loved to play golf with his friends at Greenbriar Country Club and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren on vacations.  He loved to spend winters enjoying the sunshine in Florida.  After enduring a short battle with cancer, Tom left us too soon. 

Since the pandemic is preventing us from having a big celebration in Tom’s honor,  we ask that all of you, wherever you are,  raise a glass in his honor. “Cheers to the life of Tom McCann!”  Friends and relatives may attend his walk-through visitation on Friday, October 2nd  at 12:00 followed by a short service at 1:00 at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ 08005.
