Steven Galekovic

It is with immense heart ache and tears that we announce our dad, Steve Galekovic has made his exit from earth to return home to the Lord after a very quick diagnosis of a terminal illness. Our dad was the definition of a good man. A 12 year old immigrant from Croatia that didn’t know a lick of English but created his own American dream with nothing in Queens, NY and then on to New Jersey. He had a business in NYC, loved his wife faithfully and wholeheartedly and devoted his life selflessly to his kids. He was also known for his iconic mustache his whole life, probably one of our favorite things about him. NYC has always been our true home in our hearts because my dad was there. The two just went hand in hand. Our dad has always been our #1 cheerleader, encouraging us to keep “chugging along” even in rock bottom moments. He always believed in us and gave us strength when we needed it most. He always assured us “It’s gonna be ok.” Please Dad, I hope it is.

Our dad was welcomed into heaven’s gates by his father Duro Galekovic; his favorite uncle, Mile Sucic; Uncle Ted Gasior; family friend, Susan Hayakawa; our great-grandmother, Mary Autera and several other family members. We held him and looked into is eyes as he took his last breath here on earth and wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Dad, it doesn’t feel real you are gone. We selfishly want you here with us on earth but we know your purpose here was fulfilled in a very short amount of time. We will do our best to go on with life without you here but we will always have a missing part of us living up in heaven. We will continue to make you proud and make the world know the Galekovic last name. We are proud to be your children and would die for you. God bless you for all eternity and we can’t wait to be reunited in your arms again, surrounded by your heart of gold and loving soul. We love you. We miss you and we will see you soon.

Surviving are his two beloved children, Brielle Galekovic, Steven Galekovic and their mother, Candy Galekovic; his loving mother, Barbara Galekovic; devoted sister, Nada Kucis; brother-in-law, Silvio Kucis; nieces, Briana and Kristina Kucis; his aunt, Dragica Sucic; cousins, Tony and Kathy Sucic, Susan Zarich.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, from 4-7 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. (www.BarnegatFH,com)
