Stephen Frederick Holt, age 74, passed away on July 31, 2025. Steve was born to Fred and Margaret Holt on May 10, 1951 in the Bronx, NY, where he excelled at stick ball and earned neighborhood acclaim as the first kid to smack the ball onto the top of the Chester House. He endured a childhood of parochial education and went on to attend Iona College (Idiots on North Avenue) in New Rochelle, NY, where he graduated with a degree in history in 1972. In 1970, Steve had the amazing luck to meet and fall in love with Rosanne Paruolo. The two married in 1973 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage. They raised a family, traveled the world, and laughed together everyday. He set aside history to pursue his true passion: data processing for the phone company. Over the next 34 years, at a company that changed its name at least 4 times, he worked his way up from pulling cables to data operations manager, a role in which he was respected and beloved by many coworkers for his humor, antics, and, sometimes, his technical skill and leadership.
Steve was a devoted father to his three sons, Brian (married to Kim), Dan (married to Kim), and Tom, coaching little league, taking them on vacations that involved many roller coasters (both literal and figurative), and attending with them numerous Mets, Giants, Knicks, Rangers, and Army games. He was immensely proud of his boys. He retired in 2005 to the Mirage in Barnegat, NJ, where he volunteered his time at the local hospital and was always willing to help his neighbors. He was a loving and devoted grandparent to his four grandchildren, Matthew, David, Genevieve, and Josephine. Steve would want to be remembered for his kindness and sense of humor. He is pre-deceased by his sister Nancy.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Friday, August 22, at 12pm-2pm at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ, 08005.
