Sandra Mogab Fleck Belitz, a longtime resident of Barnegat NJ, Bridgewater, NJ and Elkins Park, PA, died peacefully on May 25th, one day after her 87th birthday. She died after a long illness that she fought courageously and on her terms.
She was born on May 24th, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA the second oldest child of Cyril Mogab and Lavina Bolen Mogab. She spent her childhood in Margate, NJ where she graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1957. Crowned Miss Margate and host to one of the early Miss America pageants, she also tap danced on Steel Pier with Tony Grant's Stars of Tomorrow.
A familiar figure in the community, Sandie retired to Barnegat after a long customer service and marketing career with Bell of Pennsylvania and AT&T. Shortly after retiring from AT&T, she went on to become a successful real estate agent in Somerset County NJ before moving to Barnegat in 2004 where she devoted time to Habitat for Humanity serving as president of the Southern Ocean County Chapter for several years. She was also active in the Red Hat Society at the Mirage in Barnegat.
Sandie was a devoted mother of five children, grandmother to ten children and recently became a great grandmother. She had many hobbies over the years including bowling, tap dancing, piano, and needlepoint. She enjoyed the casinos, especially the slot machines and could often be heard laughing and enthusiastically cheering the machine on, as her fellow gamblers took notice of the excitement.
Sandie is survived by her husband of 31 years, Cary Belitz, and five children: George Fleck of Port Matilda, PA, Jacquie Fleck Rizk (fiancee Jamison Vawter) of Howell, NJ, Rodney Fleck (Ruth) of Morristown, NJ, Michele Choplin (Mike) of Audubon, PA and Suzanne Fleck Donnelly of Manville, NJ. She has 10 cherished grandchildren, Brittany and Noelle Choplin, Lindsey and Erin Fleck, Laila, Safia, Omar, Janna and Aliya Rizk, and Lisa Donnelly. She also has a cherished great granddaughter in Dusseldorf Germany (Amina Carstens). She is survived by her older sister, Celeste Dunion, of Palm Harbor, FL and her younger brother Joe Mogab of Austin, TX. She will be remembered for her fun loving spirit, big personality and devotion to family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at St. Mary's Church, Barnegat, NJ.Interment of cremains to follow immediately at St. Mary's Cemetery in Manahawkin, NJ.
