Samantha Sampieri (Cuccia), 34, of Spotsylvania, VA, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023 after a valiant battle with brain cancer.
Sam was the beloved youngest child to Michael Cuccia and Johanna Miller. She was effervescent with a ready laugh and the most radiant smile that lit up every room. A wonderful and thoughtful daughter, sister, wife and mom, it was only Sam’s inner beauty that outshined her outer beauty.
Growing up in Ocean County, New Jersey, Sam loved playing and listening to music. She graduated high school in 2007 at the top of her class, where she was involved in marching band, National Junior Honor Society and German Honor Society. She attended Boston University School of Occupational Therapy, where she was on the Dean’s List and earned both a BS and masters in five years.
In 2010 while at BU, Sam met Leonard (LJ) Sampieri while working together at Wawa. Be sure to ask LJ how they spent their first unofficial date at the bank with a paycheck mixup. Their favorite getaways included Atlantic City, Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J., and Disney World. Sam and LJ were married in 2014 immediately prior to LJ serving a tour in Iraq as an army tanker from 2014 to 2015. They lived and worked in Kansas until Sam then settled in Virginia during LJ’s next deployment. She provided educational occupational therapy services to several schools in the Spotsylvania district.
Sam is survived by her husband, Leonard Joseph Sampieri, their son, Leonard Michael (“Leo”), her mother, Johanna Miller (Troy G. Miller), her father, Mike Cuccia, her sister Marissa Cuccia, step-sister Julie Neville, parents-in-law, Lenny and Barbara Sampieri, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving extended family.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Barnegat Funeral Home, Barnegat, New Jersey from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
In lieu of flowers, the Sampieri and Cuccia families request that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to a college fund for baby Leo.
