Ronald J. Haunss

Deacon Ronald J. Haunss, age 87, of Whiting, NJ (formerly of Barnegat, NJ), passed away on July 27, 2026.

Born on August 24, 1938, in Ridgewood, Queens, NY to Mary [nee Banicke] and Joseph Haunss, Ronald (Deacon Ron) lived a life marked by faith, family and friendship.

Ron graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and New York City Community College where he studied Architecture. His career included working in facilities and design for numerous department stores in New York City including Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and A&S and financial institutions Chemical Bank and Chase Bank.

Ron proudly served his country in the US Army from November 1961 to July 1963 at Vint Hills Farms Station in Warrenton, VA.

Ron found his religious calling and became a Deacon for the Roman Catholic Church later in his life serving his parishes and the community at St. Pius in Forked River and St. Mary’s in Barnegat and Manahawkin.

Deacon Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters, Suzanne and Dianne, grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kamryn, William II, Danielle and Christopher, son-in-law, Scott, brother Kenneth and sister-in-law, Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Joseph and brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Brigit.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Barnegat, NJ. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manahawkin. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
