Robert Knudsen Obituary

AMCS Robert E. Knudsen, USN (Ret.) , 88, of Barnegat, NJ passed on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Born on January  3, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to his late parents, Howard and Ruth Knudsen. The Knudsen family moved to Hartford, Connecticut where Robert grew into a fine man. Upon graduation from high school Robert joined the United States Navy.

On September 24, 1954, Robert began his Naval Career. Over the next 21 years of honorable service Robert was assigned to Patrol Squadrons VP-42 and Fighter Squadrons VF-121 and VF 151. During the Vietnam War he served two combat deployments with Fighter Squadron VF-151 on board the naval carriers, the USS Coral Sea and the USS Midway. Robert served in multiple staff assignments during the course of his career. He retired at the prestigious rank of AMCS, Senior Chief Petty Officer. Robert continued his service to country at the Naval Air Warfare Center Lakehurst, NJ. During his 32 year career in the Civil Service Robert was a senior logistics manager specializing in maintenance planning for naval air support equipment. Robert had a lifetime of service to country.

Robert’s career of service was honorable and courageous but his greatest achievement began the day he met the love of his life, Agnes. They married and raised a family of four children. Robert and Agnes, dearly loved each other and built a home that allowed their children the opportunities to grow through life and become anything they so desired. His guiding hand will remain with his family, forever in their hearts.  Robert was a devoted husband of 64 years and a father who gave his absolute best to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the rock of his family. He was a man of courage, faith and integrity.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Agnes; four loving children: Mary Huggins, Robert P. Knudsen (Johanna Westley), Patricia Knudsen (Joseph Mattessich) and Richard Knudsen; twelve cherished grandchildren: Jeffrey, Riley, Kate, Samantha, Kelly, Bobby, Michael, Zachary, Erica, Jenny, Colt and Finn; three beautiful great grandchildren: Chase, Maya and Noah.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 10 to 11 AM at St. Mary of The Pines Church, 100 Bishop Way, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow 11 AM at the church. Interment along with Military Honors will held in Bg. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ at 1:30 PM.  (www.BarnegatFH.com)
