Robert (Bob) P. Hollenbeck Sr, 89, passed away on Sunday evening, 9/5/21. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosalie (nee Den Bleyker) of Barnegat NJ. He as 3 children, Donna Proscia of Southampton NJ, Dawn Ferrara and her husband Joe of The Villages FL, and Robert Jr. of Richardson TX. He also has a grand-daughter, April Proscia of Dumont NJ, and his great-grandson, Daniel.
Bob was born in Carlstadt NJ to George & Marie Hollenbeck, and had two siblings, the late George Jr., and Marie Linke. He attended East Rutherford High School, and Allbright College, studying General Sciences. His father was a former Mayor of Carlstadt for 10 years, and ran a plumbing business.
Bob served in the military as a combat veteran in the Korean War (1952-54) as a Sargent in the 27th Infantry – 25th Division. After returning to the states, he worked at PSGE for 44 years, first as a gas technician and later in public affairs.
Bob was a Borough of Carlstadt Councilman for 2 terms (1964-67 & 1969-71) and then as a 6 term New Jersey State Assemblyman for District 36, from 1974-86. During his years in office, he was Chairman of the Environmental Committee, and sponsored a number of bills, including the NJ Homestead Act, the “Right on Red” law, State pay for County Judges, and the NJ Water Supply Masterplan (1976) and Manasquan Reservoir.
After retiring in 1995, Bob and his wife moved from Carlstadt to South Jersey (Berkeley/Barnegat). He had a great love for boats and fishing, and had a number of vessels with names like “Do-Da-Ro”, “Therapy”, and “Row Sea”. His pride and joy was a 36’ Trawler, in which he and Rosalie toured up and down the East Coast, from Montreal to Cape May. Bob also served as a Commodore of Snipes Boat Club in Carlstadt.
A Memorial Gathering is planned for Sunday, 9/12/21 from 3-5 pm, with a Blessing at 4 pm, at the Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Ave, Barnegat NJ 08005. Their number is 609-660-8282.
