Obituary

Richard G. “Mickey” Wagner, 87, of Barnegat, NJ, formerly of Hillside, passed peacefully on January 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newark, NJ, on March 11, 1935 to his late parents, Elizabeth Deitz Wagner and Frank Wagner. Mickey was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Moriarty Wagner. He was also predeceased by his brother, Frank Wagner and two sisters, Margaret Radzewick and Madeline Ozeleas.

Mickey leaves behind his devoted and loving partner of six years,  Ann Duggan McNamara; his daughter, Judith Wagner Lynch and son- in-law, Christopher Lynch; son, Richard G Wagner, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Gladys; four granddaughters, Katherine Lynch and husband Joshua Stein, Jennifer Lynch, Megan and Emily Wagner and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Lynch Stein; two brothers-in-law, John Moriarty, Jr. and James Moriarty and sister-in-law, Doris Cabansag. Mickey is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mickey and Helen had many happy years together, raising their two children, traveling, and enjoying their 4 grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals. They were very active in their parish, St Catherine of Sienna, Hillside, NJ. Mickey was a devoted, loving caretaker to his wife, Helen, in her later years. 

Mickey and Ann found each other after both their spouses had passed and said they brought happiness back into each other’s lives. Mickey and Ann enjoyed activities and dinners with the Moving On Club , playing bocce and taking bus trips to different plays and shows.

Mickey worked as an aerospace technician for many years for Weston and then retired from Kearfott Navigation. He served the church as an usher for Saint Mary’s Church in Manahawkin and also enjoyed volunteering for their summer carnivals.  He was a past member of The Italian American Club and an active member of Moving On. Mickey was a die hard NY Yankees, Giants and Seton Hall basketball fan. It was often said of Mickey  “what a great guy! “.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Barnegat. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ.
