Richard Brown Obituary

Richard J. Brown (Brownie), 78, of Manahawkin NJ, passed away on August 19, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 18, 1945 in Passaic NJ, the son of the late John and Catherine Brown. Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam War. He later began his career with the I.U.O.E. Local 68 in 1985, working in the skilled maintenance and building trade as a stationary engineer.

After retirement in 2004, he became the talent behind Brownie's Woodcrafts for the past 20 years, handcrafting intricate wood works with a scroll saw that touched people locally and around the world. Rich’s artistic work became his deepest passion, in the creative aspect and vending at craft shows throughout New Jersey and along the East Coast, with his wife and "partner in crime". Their success at these shows brought them closer to the community and allowed people to share his talent with others.

As a man of quick wit, an opportunity to make others laugh was never missed. Whether it was a well-timed wisecrack around family or a humorous story over coffee and breakfast, Rich had a knack for putting a smile on the faces of others. His favorite line was “why be normal?”, encouraging himself and those around him to stay true to themselves. With the greatest heart, he always put people before himself, setting an inspiring standard for the family the raised.

Richard was a loving husband to Jeanne Brown and together they shared 50 wonderful years.  He is also survived by his beloved siblings Dan Brown (Meredith), Diane Rother, Barbara Schempp (Rich), Billy Windeknect, and Michael Windeknect (Adrianne) Predeceased by John Brown (brother), Kathy Brown (sister), Sandy Windeknect (sister).

He is survived by his children Joseph Brown (Beth), Tracey Hoer (Mike), Michael D’Andrea (Tracy), and Joseph D’Andrea (fiancé Maria). Richard was a proud Pop Pop to 8 grandchildren, Scott, Ashley, Erin (pre deceased), Meagan, Mikey, Gianna, Joey (Kurstin) and Nick (Elisha). And 3 great grandchildren Ivy Jo, Nicholas and Bodie.

Services will be held privately with family to honor him at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
