Phillip Joseph Shiner, 35, beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend, of Barnegat, New Jersey passed away at home on October 20, 2024. Phillip was born to parents Grace Keough and Michael Shiner on December 29, 1988, at Paul Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, New Jersey. Growing up in Ocean County, Phillip was a graduate of Southern Regional High School.
Phillip was known for his humor and ability to make everyone laugh with little effort. He was always the first to make a joke and lighten the mood to bring others joy. Phillip was in constant pursuit of knowledge, consuming as much information as possible about history, politics, and astrobiology. Armed with this information and backed by his inquisitive nature, Phillip was a gifted conversationalist and enjoyed friendly debate with others to deepen his perspective and sometimes argue his own.
An avid sports lover, Phillip spent his free time watching his favorite sports teams, the Giants, whose players were the inspiration behind his name, and the Rangers. A talented athlete, Phillip inherited his love for hockey from his father and followed in his father’s footsteps playing the position of goaltender for Toms River, Brick, and Southern Regional. Throughout his playing career, Phillip won numerous awards and recognitions, including placing 1st in the Can/Am Challenge Cup, which he was most proud of.
Most of all, Phillip is remembered for the deep love and pride that he had for his family with some of his most cherished moments being the simplest. Phillip enjoyed singing karaoke at the American Legion, hitting the casinos in Atlantic City, watching movies and spending quality time with his mother. He enjoyed watching and talking all things Mixed Martial Arts with his sister, fishing to honor his father’s memory with his brother, and hitting the open seas of the Barnegat Bay with his Uncle Tim.
Phillip was predeceased by his father, Michael Shiner. He is survived by his loving Mother, Grace Buck, her husband, Tristan Buck; his sister, Jillian Shiner; and his brother, Brent Shiner.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM with a Blessing at 6:45 PM at the Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, New Jersey 08005.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family afterwards at the American Legion Post 232 499 N Main Street Barnegat, NJ 08005.
