PATRICK SORICELLO, beloved husband, father, Poppy & G-Pop.
Patrick Soricello, 87, of Barnegat, NJ, died peacefully at home on November 5, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Pat was born in Newark, NJ, on February 21, 1937, to Alexander and Josephine Soricello. He lived in Clark, NJ, for 42 years before moving to Barnegat, NJ, 20 years ago. Pat was the quarterback for his high school football team at West Side High School, Newark, NJ. He served 4 years in the United States Army. At 16 years old, Pat worked loading trucks for Harry Rich Affiliates, Union, NJ. He then worked his way up to a position in the company as an estimator/sales representative eventually becoming the owner of the company.
Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony, and his sisters, Rosemarie and Betty. Pat’s legacy will continue through his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara; their son, Denis; their daughters Dawn & husband Sean Kelly, Gina & husband George LaHaye, Donna & husband Mike Lyden; as well as their 12 amazing grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Jessica Soricello, Bianca Soricello, Alyssa Kelly, Megan Hart & wife, Charity Hart, Ryan Kelly & wife, Janna Kelly, Amanda LaHaye, Tara LaHaye, Faith LaHaye, Bridget Lyden, Hannah Lyden, Erin Lyden, Dan Lyden, and lastly, 2 great grandchildren (and Poppy said “keep ‘em coming”!) Micah Hart, Layla Muzyka.
Pat will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, Poppy, G-Pop, friend, coach (Pop Sauce) & mentor. He was an active member in his community in Clark and Barnegat as a member of the Board of Education, Planning Board and volunteer mentor for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Juvenile Division. Pat was an avid sports enthusiast as an athlete playing football, flag football, basketball, mens softball and tennis. He continued his love of sports coaching Pop Warner football, Little League baseball and recreational basketball. His love of sports was passed on to his grandchildren. Rarely did Poppy miss being on the sidelines cheering his grandchildren on. If he wasn’t playing sports, coaching sports or cheering on his children and then grandchildren, he was cheering on our New York sports teams or watching all college sports teams that his grandchildren attended.
Poppy touched so many lives. He will be remembered for his strength, his genuine kindness, his beautiful smile and his incredible sense of humor. Pat was famous for his simplistic jokes, silly magic tricks and playing the harmonica. He was always “dressed to impress” and loved his Cadillacs. He loved a good meal, a nice glass of wine and a really good cigar. Pat lived life to the fullest. He always saw the good in anyone he met and saw the positive in every situation. “Don’t sweat the small stuff” was how he lived his life. Pat made everyone feel so special and genuinely cared about how you were doing.
His favorite place on earth was Long Beach Island. He loved the sun on his face and endless summer beach days with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will continue his legacy with summers in LBI.
We will celebrate the life of our hero, Pat/Dad/Poppy/G-Pop with visitation at St. Mary’s Church, 747 W Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:30AM. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:30 AM.
