Michael F. Stec Jr., affectionately known as Pop, passed away on March 3, 2026, at the age of 72.
Born on March 18, 1953, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Mike grew up with his parents, Michael and Eva, and his sister, Judith. He graduated from Middlesex County Community College—famously choosing his major at random—and in 1982 married his wife, Susan. Together they built a family and a home in Flemington, New Jersey, where he spent most of his life.
Mike enjoyed winters in Vermont, celebrating Christmas and skiing with his family. He never missed his kids’ sporting events and embraced every adventure that came his way. While he enjoyed just about everything, he especially loved fishing and golfing whenever he had the chance.
He proudly worked as a dedicated Lab Technician for Exxon in the oil and gas industry before retiring and moving “down the shore” for a well‑earned change of pace. Retirement for Mike meant painting houses simply because he enjoyed it, tending to his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren. They often referred to him as the smartest person they knew—likely because he was always full of fun facts and could answer any question thrown his way. He was the kind of person who would help anyone with anything, without hesitation.
Mike is survived by his wife, Susan; his three children, Eric, Jimmy (and his wife Bri), and Kelly (and her husband Jay); and eight grandchildren: Alexandra, Lucas, Angelie, Kiana, Sterling, Aspen, Grason, and Mia. He is also survived by his sister, Judy (and her husband Bruce); his brothers‑in‑law, Mark (and his wife Jodie), Tommy (and his wife Laura), and Johnny (and his wife Kathleen); as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless great friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Michael Stec Sr. and Eva Nemeth, and by his daughter‑in‑law, Angela Espejo.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 2 to 5 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ 08005. Private Cremation to follow. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
