Lechaun Bryant-Archer Obituary

Le Chaun Yvette Bryant-Archer, born October 6, 1970, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her wife and family. She was a vibrant, free-spirited woman whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.

Le Chaun is survived by her wife of 25 years, Gayl Archer; her father, Gailliard Smith; four sons, Larry H. Calhoun III, Marcus A. Calhoun, Isaiah J. Calhoun, and Maddox M. Smith-Archer; her aunt Elizabeth and uncle Benjamin; ten siblings—Michele, Marlena, Ti-Shanna, Sheena, Maria, Derrell, Quinn, Steven, Samari, and Gailliard Jr.—and numerous nephews and nieces who were blessed by her love. She was predeceased by her mother, Sheryl Fisher, her step-father, Harry Bryant, and her grandmother, Ruth-Ann Domingo.

Le Chaun was native to the South Bronx, where she learned her free spirit and individuality. She cherished the art culture of New York, and later moved with her siblings and parents to Asbury Park, NJ. There she attended Asbury Park High and formed lifelong friendships with a circle of women who were known as the “Unique Sisters.”

In her early adult life, Le Chaun met Larry Calhoun II, a serviceman, and together they had three sons. Le Chaun dedicated her life to the healthcare system, bringing motherly instinct, care, and generosity to every person she encountered. It was a common sight to see her take in children who needed love, and she welcomed them with open arms as part of her extended family. She also cherished many as her God-children: Jazmine, Rasheed, Imeer, NahMeera, and TajMeera.

Le Chaun loved reading, with a special fondness for horror novels; Stephen King was among her favorite authors. She treasured family recipes and keepsakes, and she looked forward to family gatherings and the meals that accompanied them. As the matriarch of her family, she earned the trust of her relatives, who confided in her and sought her guidance and love.

Her commitment to service extended into formal education, as she earned a degree in Health and Human Services, with a goal of contributing more to her community. Later in life, she embraced the role of a foster parent, opening her home and heart to children who needed family and belonging, and she loved each foster child as her own.

Le Chaun passed in her home on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with her wife by her side. We will carry forward Le Chaun’s powerful, dynamic, and loving spirit by honoring her memory with the same generosity, resilience, and joy she shared with those around her.
