Joseph Manhart, 91, of Barnegat, NJ passed peacefully on March 22, 2020 at SOMC. He was born in Carteret, NJ and relocated to Barnegat twenty years ago. Until his retirement, he was employed as a welder by U.S. Metals Refining Company for more than 35 years. Joe was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Garden State Chapter of DESA. He first served on Navy Destroyers and his last three years was served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Midway. He was a life member of both Carey Council 1280 Knights of Columbus and of the Carteret Volunteer Fire Company #2, where he served as President.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and for many years was a daily communicant. He belonged to the Silver Liners Seniors Club, the Hungarian American Cultural Club in Whiting, NJ and the VFW Post 10092 of Barnegat.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Julia (Held) Manhart; 3 cherished children and their spouses, Joseph and Mary Manhart, James and Patrice Manhart, Julie and Victor Cutrone; grandchildren, William, Patricia and Marissa. A son of the heart Lucius Charlemagne and his St. Mary’s Family of loyal friends.
Viewing Wednesday, March 25, 2020 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat. Private interment in Bg. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Vet. Mem. Cem., Arneytown.
