John Walter Schultzel, affectionately known as "Jack," died peacefully in his home in Manahawkin, New Jersey on February 20th, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 90. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Viola (Lemanski) Schultzel, daugher Kathryn Lardinelli and her husband Joseph Lardinelli, his late daughter June Schultzel, daugher Laura MacArthur and her husband Richard MacArthur, grandchildren Joseph Lardinelli and his wife Christina Lardinelli, Dayna Lardinelli and her partner Jihad Donaldson, and Megan Selitto and her husband Joseph Selitto, great grandchildren Dominic Lardinelli and Aubrey Donaldson, along with his great grandpuppies the late Doc, the late Bubba, Sienna, Stella and Benny.
John was born on June 13, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Dorothy and Walter Schultzel. He served four years in the Army, then returned to Jersey City to marry the love of his life, Viola (Lemanski) Schultzel on August 25, 1951. They lived in Jersey City where they had their three daughters and then moved to River Edge, New Jersey in 1965 where they stayed until 1996 when they moved to their current residence in Manahawkin, New Jersey. John was a very hard worker from the time he was a young boy. He always made sure his family was taken care of and he made it his priority to give his family the life that they deserved in a place that was safe. He worked at Autographic Register as a machinist in Englewood, New Jersey until his retirement. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, boating, hiking, bike riding, being outdoors, gardening, bird watching, driving, exploring different places, sitting by the water, checking out the action at the doc and at the fishing boat marina, and taking weekly trips to Arby's for his roast beef sandwiches. He was known by most as a jokester with a great personality who loved to make people laugh and enjoyed a good laugh himself. On the outside he had a hard shell, but beneath that was a heart of gold full of love. He was the most hard-working, caring, funny, witty, honorable, and loving person. Viola, his wife, was truly the light of his life and the one person that he lived for and would affectionately refer to as his "Lamb" or his "Sweetpea." Their love was the kind that you only read about in love stories, but theirs was as real as it could be. He lived 90 exceptional years and will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
