John Sargent Obituary

John Joseph Sargent, of Manahawkin, NJ  bravely fought a long battle with brain and lung cancer and passed at home on Friday, July 5th 2024, at the age of 80.

Beloved son of the late John & Rose Sargent of Bayonne, NJ.   Loving Husband of Darlene (née Somlock). Loving Father of Christopher (Kimberly) of Barrington, NJ and Kenneth (Natalie) of Manahawkin, NJ.  Proud grandpa of 10 beautiful grandchildren.

John grew up in North Plainfield and in 1965, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Darlene.  John joined the Army Reserves and served 6 years, earning the recognition of Expert Rifle Instructor. After his service, he began his lifelong career as a Journeyman Electrician and General Foreman in the IBEW Local 102.

Spending time with family and friends was most important to John and he especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.  John was an avid golfer and loved baseball.  He enjoyed coaching his sons and was a Little League coach for 20 years. John continued his love of baseball as an avid NY Mets fan, watching any game he could.

John loved serving his community as a member of the Ocean Acres Civic Association and on the local election board. He loved taking trips to the beach with family, Atlantic City and playing card games with friends.
