It is with a heavy heart that Judy Smith tells of the passing of her husband of 35 years, John Smith. John passed away after a short illness with his beloved wife by his side. John proudly served as a volunteer fire fighter for over 30 years while living in Bergen County. He was a brick mason for many years and then became groundskeeper for the Franklin Lakes School District where he and Judy met. They spent their first 15 years together in Oakland, NJ and eventually retired to Long Beach Island. Living there brought John back to his birth roots of Scotland. Although life on LBI was fun with lots of wonderful company and friends, it became apparent that living there was more and more difficult as you aged. Lots to do, when the back bay floods your street!! So, we ventured inland and found Heritage Point 11 years ago. Life there was more carefree and we made many new and wonderful friends and we never had to worry about flooding from the next nor'easter. John enjoyed his weekly poker games at the clubhouse and of course, we were still close enough to his favorite pastime, the Atlantic City Casinos! We traveled with Heritage Point to many places and became involved in some of their many activities. Life was good.
John is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Jim Smith, a son, Jimmy and a nephew, Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy and his siblings, Alexander (Sharon) Smith, Anne Melvin, Alan (Joanne) Smith, three children, several grandchildren, two nieces and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
