John Freeman, Jr. Obituary

John J. Freeman Jr., Little Egg Harbor, NJ

John (Jack) passed away August 15, 2021 at Southern Ocean Medical Center. He was 77 years old. He is survived by his wife Andrea, brothers-in-law/sister-in law Bruce Minkoff and Gary & Cheryl Minkoff, nieces Tricia Solano, Denise Dion, Aliza and Elana Minkoff, Ronnie and Corrie Minkoff, nephews Wayne Rodler and Dan Minkoff, great nephew Kyle Rodler and great niece Reese Minkoff. He also leaves behind   many wonderful cousins and friends from all phases of his life; elementary school, high school, college, employment and neighbors. He is pre-deceased by his parents John Sr. and Eleanor Freeman and sister Jean Rodler and brother-in-law Dennis Rodler.

Jack was a graduate of North Plainfield H.S., class of 1962, attended Somerset County Technical School for two years and graduated Montclair State College, class of 1968. During his time at Montclair State he was the varsity football center. He began his 33 year teaching career in Industrial Arts in 1968 in The Township of Union Public Schools. He taught at Burnet Jr. HS, Union HS and Kawameeh MS. Jack coached Union HS football for 13 years. He retired from teaching in 2001.

Jack and Andrea loved to travel both in the U.S. and abroad with their trip to Italy in 2016 one of their highlights. Attending Broadway musicals was a favorite activity as was gardening, fishing, playing the guitar and listening to country music. Just plain “puttering around” was an all time favorite activity whether repurposing items for a new use, fixing things around the house or working on craft projects in wood, leather, drawing and metal.

Jack loved to watch football and taught Andrea almost everything he knew about the game which was extensive due to his years of playing in high school and college and coaching. The NY Giants, Green Bay Packers and Pitttsburgh Steelers’ games were particular favorite teams to follow.

Over the years Jack had a significant number of health issues but always managed to fight his way through. He found ways to work around his limitations and continue to heartily enjoy life. He was tough in many ways but also generous, kind and caring.

Most people who knew Jack will remember his ability to tell jokes on any and all subjects. He loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

If desired, donations can be made in Jack’s name to a charity of choice. He cared about many issues so any choice is greatly appreciated.
