John J. Akersten

John J. Akersten, 75, of Barnregat passed peacefully at home on Sunday, November 17, 2019. A US Army Veteran, he was raised in Livingston, NJ by his late parents, Jarl and Elizabeth Akersten. He enjoyed  summers at the family home in Spring Lake, NJ and formerly resided in Old Bridge, NJ for over 30 years. John retired from Lucent Technologies.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Lou (DeLuca) Akersten; his two loving children, Suzanne Wojenski and Michael Akersten; two cherished granddaughters, Sara and Emily.

Viewing Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ (www.BarnegatFH.com). Mass of Christian Burial offered Thursday 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, Barnegat. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manahawkin. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital greatly appreciated.
