Jim Schmidt Obituary

Jim Schmidt, 84, of Barnegat, NJ, passed on Friday, April 3, 2026 with his daughter Ursala Fisher and her best friend Sheila Price at his side at Deborah Heart & Lung hospital, Browns Mills, NJ. He was the older brother to Geroge Schmidt born in Passaic, NJ on December 18, 1941 to his late parents, Hugo Schmidt and Estelle Tosh.

In his early career, Jim worked for Federal Sweets and Biscuit Company, Clifton, NJ, as a warehouse foreman. During his time there he met his late wife, Irene Schmidt of 55 years who predeceased him on July 20, 2021. Jim later worked for Charms Candy Company in Bloomfield, NJ, as a warehouse foreman. He later shifted his career to being a truck driver. He was an owner operator of his own truck for many years. He then spent the remainder of his career working as a stainless steel & tubing hauler having worked for Brunswick Tubular in Lakewood, NJ for many years followed by McCarter Alloys in Vincentown, NJ. Jim retired in 2011.

Jim had a passion for many hobbies throughout his life including fishing and owning his own boat, golf, bowling, and hunting. He was a true sportsman. Jim fully invested himself into his hobbies. Throughout the years he made golf clubs, fishing rods, arrows & ammunition for hunting. He was an aquarium enthusiast having started with freshwater tanks and then expanding to a 200 gallon saltwater aquarium. He loved to keep busy and always looked for projects and hobbies to occupy his time. He loved his dog Beatles very much and enjoyed caring for him.

Surviving are his beloved Daughter Ursala Fisher, his brother George Schmidt, Sister In-Law Barbara Schmidt and Nephew Christopher Schmidt. Sheila Price, best friend of Ursala Fisher was like a second daughter to him. Nieces from his wife Irene’s family who are the daughters of predeceased Stella and Nick Ciallella; Marlene, Lisa, Nancy, Marie, and Tracy.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The family will receive visitors between 12:00pm – 3:00pm at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. There will be private cremation prior to the service. (www.BarnegatFH.com).
