James Meltzer Obituary

James H. Meltzer, 80 of Barnegat, NJ formally of Freehold, NJ and Irvington, NJ, April 5, 1945-June 22, 2025.

Jim passed away peacefully Sunday June 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Irvington, NJ.  He graduated from Irvington High School in 1963 after which he attended AMDA College of Performing Arts and graduated in 1967.

Jim’s first love was his family and then his music.  Early on, he was a founding member for the band The Storytellers, where we played the Jersey Shore circuit.  In the 70’s and 80’s he sang with Rain and Scirroco.  More recently, he found his voice again with the group Remember When.  Prior to retirement he was a sales manager for Culligan Water Conditioning.

Jim took great pride in his daughter and grandchildren.  He and his beloved wife Barbara began their life together in 1988.  They enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family.

Jim was predeceased by his father, Robert (Bobby) Meltzer; and his mother, Gladys (Spurr) Meltzer.

He was the cherished husband of Barbara (nee Peluso) for 36 years; beloved father of Kelli (Meltzer) Tanner and devoted grandfather of Taylor Tanner and Ryan Tanner.

Jimmy was loved by all family and friends. 

There will be a Celebration of Life , Thursday June 26, 2025, 11 AM at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery Chapel. 

The Family will be sitting Shiva @ 3 Montauk Place, Barnegat, NJ. Thursday - 12:30 pm, Friday- 12:30-4 pm and 6- 8 pm, Saturday 12-4 pm.
