James Grau Obituary

James E. (Jim) Grau, 87, of Stafford Township (formerly of Oakhurst) passed away at home on August 7, 2021. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated grandfather/great-grandfather. Jim had a passion for life, a great sense of humor and dedicated himself to his career and family. He was born in Cleveland, OH and moved to NJ in 1958. He received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit and his master’s degree from the NJ Institute of Technology. Following college, he served as an officer in the US Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ. In 1996, he retired from a passionate career in Satellite Communications. His giving nature, loving smile and encouraging words will be missed. He touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Mary Catherine (nee Opie). He was the loving father of Jim (Julie) of Livonia, MI, Tom (Anne) of Pittsburgh, PA, Ann (Bruce) Chiodi of Manahawkin, NJ, Bill of Whiting, NJ and Amy (Zack) Konow of Ocean, NJ; grandfather of 13; great-grandfather of 8; beloved son of the late Lucille (nee Collisi) and Edward Grau; loving brother of Margaret Kamis, William, Therese Teresi, Mary Peters and the late Marie Zamiska, Irene Gartland, Doris, Joan Senyitko, Robert, John Francis, Edward, Donna Sanders, Katharine McCallum and Timothy; uncle of many. Sincere and special thanks to his caretakers and friends at The Residence at Stafford – Manahawkin, NJ.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by his grandson, Fr. Jim Grau, on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 10 am at St Mary’s Parish, 747 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ 08005. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central Jersey Chapter, 740 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702.
