Irene M. Schmidt

Irene Schmidt, 80, of Barnegat, NJ, passed on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. She was the youngest of 6 daughters born in Paterson, NJ to her late parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Jaslanek. 
In her early career, Irene worked for Federal Sweets and Biscuit Company, Clifton, NJ, as a cookie packager and later for Hoffman-La Roche (Roche), Nutley, NJ, as a Laboratory Assitant. After the birth of her daughter in 1972, Irene became a full time mother and homemaker. After raising her own daughter, Irene provided child care for multiple families spanning a 20 year period of time. Irene loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to Atlantic City to play the slot machines and she loved scratch off lottery tickets. Irene loved her labrador retriever, Zeus and her grandog, Emma, a pembroke welsh corgi. She enjoyed cruising and traveled to Canada/New England and Alaska with her daughter.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 55 years, Jim; her loving daughter Ursala Fisher, her sister Stella Ciallella and beloved family friend & honorary "daughter" Sheila Price.  She was predeceased by 4 sisters, Sophie Jaslanek, Helen Whitmore, Anna Cavillo and Vera Portello. Her extended family includes many nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021. The family will receive visitors between 12:00pm - 3:00pm at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Private cremation to follow. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
