Howard Magnus, 86, of Barnegat, NJ passed on Sunday, January 27, 2019. He was born in Springfield Gardens, NY on January 8, 1933 and graduated from Woodrow Wilson Vocational High School in Jamaica, NY.
Howie served in the US Navy from May 24, 1951 to May 13, 1955 during the Korean War on a destroyer as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class.
Howie met his wife Barbara in 1955 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Springfield Gardens, NY and were married on May 3, 1958. They were married for 61 years and lived in Commack, NY.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Magnus; two children, Keith and his wife Sandy, Kim O'Bannon and three grandchildren, Josef Decker, Nicky and Danny Magnus. He was predeceased his son Kevin at age 32 while in the Navy.
Upon retirement, they moved to Heritage Point in Barnegat, NJ where he volunteered at the Spa Clubhouse desk, played golf and bowled on the Heritage Point League.
Howie and Barbara attended Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting, NJ and volunteered as Communion Assistants, ushers and at coffee hour.
Viewing Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Ave., Barnegat. Funeral Services will be offered Friday 11 AM at the Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting, NJ. Interment will follow in Bg. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory are encouraged to be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ 08759. (Discretionary Fund or Musin Fund)
