George DeCataldo Obituary

George DeCataldo, 91, of Barnegat, NJ passed on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Mr. DeCataldo was born in Mariners Harbor and graduated from Port Richmond High School. He studied at the University of Virginia. 

From 1954 to 1956, Mr. DeCataldo served in the U.S. Army Honor Guard, stationed in Washington, D.C., and attained the rank of Specialist 3rd Class.

Mr. DeCataldo’s long career with the railroad system is still going strong. He worked for various companies, including the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail and most recently Amtrak at Penn Station in Manhattan, where he retied as the General Manager of Operations.

While with Amtrak, Mr. DeCataldo completed an executive program t the University of Virginia.

After retiring, he took on another challenge as General Manager of Operations for the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail System in Jersey City.

Through the years, Mr. DeCataldo took on other challenges such as, home improvement projects. He collects model trains which are occasionally displayed during the holiday season.

Surviving are his two loving sons, Peter DeCataldo and his wife, Patricia; their children, Bryan  and Katie; their three grandchildren, Logan, Ellie and Lilly, and James DeCataldo and his wife, Theresa; their two sons, Matthew and Michael; their grandchild, Lucia.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 1 to 4 PM with a Blessing and Military Honors to begin at 3:30 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ. Private Cremation to follow. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
