Frederick T. Reckner, of Barnegat, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on December 19, 2018, at age 81. Born in Sellersville, PA, he graduated from Central Bucks High, earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Temple University and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. He worked for Tinius Olsen in Horsham, PA, until he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Theresa Reckner; his sister, Mary Reckner, of Perkasie, PA; two children, Paul Reckner, of Madison, WI, and Ann Reckner, of Kirkland, WA; and three stepchildren, Richard Tortoriello, of Barnegat, NJ, Jessie Coty, of MountainView, CA, and Nicole Rose of Felton, CA.
His passion for the natural world, which began with his boyhood explorations of the woods of Bucks County, led him to hike many of America’s wild places. He was self-taught in the natural sciences, including astronomy, geology and ornithology, and was a talented carpenter and cabinet-maker, overseeing the building of his first home and later helping to furnish the homes of friends and family with his lovingly crafted creations. A kind and gentle man, Fred was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Memorial gathering Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1 PM with a funeral service 2 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat.
