Obituary

Douglas S. Voorhis, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at the age of 91.  Mr. Voorhis was born on March 2, 1932 in Oradell, New Jersey to the late Erna V. Anby and Douglas Simpson Voorhis, Sr.  He lived in Oradell and Dumont before moving to Manahawkin.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Voorhis was predeceased by his wife Patricia A. Kelleher, his son, Douglas S. Voorhis, III, his son in law, Louis R. Molina, M.D., and his sisters, Marilyn Victoria Kempton and Merna Elise Clemens.  

Surviving are his loving children, John Hegarty and his wife, Kathleen, Dawn Molina, Patricia E. Voorhis and her husband Joseph Siecinski, and Robert Voorhis and wife Kelly; grandchildren, John Hegarty, Michael Hegarty, Alexander Molina, Samantha Molina, Christopher Molina, Nicholas Molina, Matthew Molina, Joseph P. Siecinski, Julianne Siecinski, Christopher Voorhis, Alexandra Voorhis, Olivia Voorhis, and Peter Voorhis; great grandchildren, Shane Hegarty, Evelyn Hegarty, Sadie Hegarty, and Penelope Hegarty; and many loving nieces, cousins and friends. 

Mr. Voorhis served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War.  He worked for Penn Trucking and was a member of Teamsters Local 807.  He was an exempt fireman with the Dumont Fire Department, Company No. 2 for over 25 years, and was an active member and past Commander of the American Legion, Post 511, Manahawkin, New Jersey.   

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 511, P.O. Box 1, Manahawkin, New Jersey 08050 or the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, New Jersey 08731.  

Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
