Ciro Ghiraldi

Mr. Ciro Ghiraldi, of Barnegat, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2023 at the age of 84 surrounded by his five children.  The youngest of four siblings, Ciro was born on June 12, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Ciro and Angela Ghiraldi.

After studying at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Ciro was employed as a courier.  Subsequently, he joined the Port Watchmen’s Union / Port Police and Guards and worked as a security officer for nearly 40 years.

Ciro met his wife, Lorraine Scardina, at a local roller skating rink.  They married on August 15, 1959 and had 6 children.  After living in Brooklyn, and then Staten Island, Ciro and Lorraine moved to a beautiful community in New Jersey where they enjoyed their retirement with family and newly made friends.  Ciro and Lorraine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009.   

Ciro was a devoted and loving son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend.  He was a talented artist, carpenter, and cook.  He enjoyed bowling, singing and playing the guitar, and spending quality time with family, friends, and his companion, Doreen Luther.  At his community, Ciro could often be found exercising at the gym, swimming at the pool, or playing bocce ball.  He was a member of the Italian & American Club, the HUMPS, the ROMEOs, and an original member of the Fireside Club.

Ciro is preceded in death by his parents, sister Carmella, brothers Frank and Simon, and wife Lorraine.  He is survived by his five loving children, Loraina (partner Steve Berndt), Gerard (wife Danielle), Ciro (fiancée Charlene Palon), Richard (wife Laura), Ronald (wife Thatcha Pongsuea), his grandson Stephen, and his brother-in-law Richard Scardina (wife Diane DeMarco). 

The Ghiraldi Family extends their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to so many wonderful friends and neighbors who embraced Ciro and Lorraine with warm friendship; they brought much joy and love into their lives.

His family will celebrate a life well-lived on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 with visitation from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., with a Blessing at 7:00 pm, at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ 08005.  Interment will be private at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.  (www.BarnegatFH.com)
