Barbara McNally Obituary

Barbara Marie McNally (neé Lotz), 93, of Manahawkin, NJ died peacefully on January 19, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born on September 6, 1926 to Helen B. (Hegarty) and Edward W. Lotz on Staten Island and resided in West Brighton for over 60 years.  Barbara was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School (Class of 1944) where she played on the NYC championship basketball team.  She married the love of her life, James P. McNally on March 24, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church.  She was proud to re-enter the workforce when her youngest child entered school and then continued her education and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/ Accounting at the College of Staten Island in 1982.  She was employed by Staten Island Community Chest and later United Way of New York City where she rose ultimately to VP of Finance until her retirement in 1990.  Barbara bowled in the Colonial Lanes Monday Night Mixed League and was an early member of the Hillside Swim Club where the whole family enjoyed many summers.  She enjoyed painting, ceramics and was an avid reader, esp. her beloved NY Times.  After retirement, Barbara and Jim re-located to Barnegat, NJ where she resided for over 25 years.  She enjoyed playing golf and tennis both in NJ and in Florida where she spent many winter seasons in Ormond-by-the Sea.  She served for several years on the Board of Trustees of the Pheasant Run Homeowner’s Association.  Barbara was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church on Staten Island and St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Barnegat.

Barbara was known for her sharp wit, interest in all things political and love of family.  Known as Mom, Barbara, Bo or Bobo, she was the hub of our wheel, an inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Jim in 2005, by her daughter, Margaret Murphy in 2019, by her sister, Betty Romer in 1994 and brother, Ned Lotz in 2018.  Survived by her sister, Phyllis Campbell, as well as her children, Kathleen (Thomas) Cotter of Southport, NC, James P.
