Steven Woodmaska Obituary

Steven Albert Woodmaska, Jr., 90, of Manahawkin, NJ.
It's with heavy hearts and gratitude to the Lord above for a long life filled with many blessings that the Woodmaska family announces the passing of its patriarch,  Steven Albert Jr. on August 14, just five days before his 91st birthday. Steve was born to immigrant parents from Central and Eastern Europe and grew up in a large family on a farm in western Pennsylvania during the Great Depression. It was a harsh existence,  the kind experienced by migrants to our always great country from before its founding up to the present day.  And as the children of immigrants to our beloved country always do,  Steve thrived.  After serving in the U.S. Army between WWII and the Korean War (during which time he was deployed in the Japanese Occupation,  witnessing the aftermath of the atomic weapons deployed by us against Hiroshima and Nagasaki), he entered into a long career in the federal civil service.  In his role as a Contract Officer for the Department of Defense,  Steve purchased multi-million dollar weapons systems that protected the Free World during the Cold War.  In the mid-'50s, Steve met his better half,  Mary (nee Uhlik) (who is also the child of immigrants), and they married in 1958. Their union produced four children. Steve truly lived the American Dream,  and he was blessed to see his children achieve the kind of success the grandchildren of immigrants can in our country,  if given the chance.  Steve enjoyed bowling (high score: 276), and was a continually-frustrated fan of the Jets. He was looking forward to watching them this season, and was more optimistic than ever about his team's chances He'll be rooting for them from Heaven.

Steve is survived by his wife,  Mary,  sons Stephen, Thomas and Jon,  daughter Mary Ann, grandsons James and Luke, and brother Joseph.

In lieu of flowers,  please count the blessings in your own lives and families,  pray for a stranger who needs it,  say a kind word to someone,  and,  above all,  love one another. Go Jets!
