Richard H. Foster, 87, son of Don and Isabel Whitney Foster, passed away peacefully November 2, 2019. "Dick" was a resident of Manahawkin for 18 years, after living most of his life in Glen Ridge, where he and his wife Elaine raised their 5 sons. Dick was a graduate of Glen Ridge HS, Rutgers University and Rutgers Law School.
Dick was a past president of the Glen Ridge Athletic Association, a director emeritus of the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association as well as a member of the US Amateur Hockey's Junior Council. In 2016, the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League named their championship the Foster Cup Finals, and in 2018, the NJ Devils awarded him the Dr. John McMullen Award for his long service to the youth hockey community.
Dick's greatest joy, however, was his time with family and friends. He always welcomed any and all into his home, including summers in Surf City.
He leaves Brian and Amy, their daughters Megan, Kerry and Lauren; Chris, Mary Murdoch and their son Richard; Kevin and Erin, their sons Rory, Jack, Tim and daughter Taryn; Bill and Pam, their sons Duncan, Corbett and Clayton; Rick, Karen Adams, daughter Hayley, sons Brad and Luke; and '6th son' Tom Preville.
Dick's beloved Elaine predeceased him, as did his sister Lois.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for 3 pm, December 21st at the Glen Ridge Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family is in the process of setting up a scholarship in Dick’s name - please bear with us while we finalize the details; we will make them public as soon as we can.
