Richard James Flynn of Barnegat sadly passed away on May 11, 2019 at the age of 85. Richard is survived by his wife, Lorraine Alpegiani Flynn, as well as his two daughters, Vanessa Coppola and Meghan Olin.Richard leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his five loving grandchildren: Lora, Peter, Alice, Abigail and Audrey. They brought him such joy.
Richard was born in the South Bronx. His parents, Michael and Christina Flynn, were immigrants from Limerick, Ireland. Richard was the fourth of five children (Tommy, Marion, Christina, "Richie" and Michael). He loved his family very much, especially his parents, and very often told sweet and funny stories of his childhood.
Richard attended school at St. Anselm's parish and went on to attend Cardinal Hayes High School. He joined the Navy at age 18 and served for 4 years. He was very proud of his military service and until his death held a deep respect and strong compassion for all members of the United States military.
He then attended Fordham University in the Bronx where he studied Banking and Business. He went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Business from New York University.
Richard was a man well known for his humor, taking the opportunity to tell very funny jokes as often as possible. He even brought his jokes and laughter during his care until his final days. He loved classical music, reading, bacon and avoiding traffic at all costs.
Richard was an amazing husband, father and role model for his children. He was well loved by all and his presence in this world will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Richard’s name, to the Wounded Warrior Project.
A Memorial Mass will be offered Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church, 747 West Bay Ave., Barnegat.
