Mario A. Orlando, Sr., 90, of Barnegat passed December 12, 2017. A US Navy Veteran of WWII, he formerly resided in Roselle Park, NJ and retired from the Prudential Insurance Co., where he worked in sales for 37 years. Mario was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, The Catholic War Veterans and several other church, civic and youth organizations.
Predeceased by a son, Mario A. Orlando, Jr., he is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Rosemarie Orlando; his loving son, Paul Orlando and wife Patricia; two cherished grandchildren, Catherine and Matthew Orlando. Mario or “Mat” as his friends referred to him loved to volunteer. He was an usher at the 7:00 am Mass for 39 years at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, an assistant coach to both sons in baseball and football and dedicated to his loving wife and childhood sweetheart, Rosemarie, who he met and swore to marry at the age of seven. In his free time, Mario loved hunting, fishing and in his later years teaching his grandchildren to speak Italian. He was an accomplished home cook passing on many of his family’s recipes and cooking tips to family and friends. Mario was also an avid supporter of Rutgers Football and Basketball, but his true love was the New York Yankees following every game either on television or radio. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Viewing Friday, Dec. 15th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat. Mass offered Monday 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Barnegat. Entombment in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
