Lawrence Herman Schenk, Sr. 78 of Barnegat NJ, died peacefully at home on September 13, 2018, after an extended illness. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Virginia Schenk. Larry was born in Camden NJ, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and a former senior vice president of Guaranty National Insurance Company in Denver, Colorado.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Margaret “Peggy” (nee Ackley) and children Michele (Tim) Wiley, Suzanne Pappasso, Lawrence H. Schenk, Jr. , and Nicole Schenk, grandchildren Stephanie, Elizabeth, Patrick, Sarah, Kristin, and Kelly and great-granddaughter Emilia. He is also survived by his brothers John (Linda) Schenk, David (Bea) Schenk, and sister Helen DiPopolo. Larry will also be missed by many brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Larry was a model train hobbyist, Civil War history buff, fan of the Phillies and Eagles, lover of the beach and hot summer days. He was an active volunteer in the community- a past president of the ARC of Arapahoe/Douglas County in Colorado, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and past-Grand Knight, and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish. He liked traveling, taking many cruises and touring Europe with Peggy after his retirement from the insurance industry. Larry always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
