James V. Eckert, 83, of Waretown, NJ, peacefully passed away on January 14, 2018.

James served in the Navy during the Korean War.  He was a graduate of Seton Hall University.

He was a long time resident of South Plainfield, NJ where he owned and published the local newspaper, The Reporter.  He served as Clerk/Administrator and was a former councilman.  He was a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Barnegat American Legion, Knights of Columbus and served on the  Waretown Planning Board. 

James is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Elizabeth, devoted father of Maribeth Bolger (Robert), Theresa Eckert, James Eckert (Lori), Gerald Eckert (Irene), and seven grandchildren, Katie, Robert, and Sean Bolger, Gregory, William, Claire and Christopher Eckert and his loving sister Gertrude (Trudy) Thievon.

There will be a Memorial Mass at 11:00AM on Thursday, Jan 18th at Saint Mary of the Pines Church, Manahawkin.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the memory of James Eckert to St. Vincent de Paul, C/O St. Mary's Church, 747 West Bay Ave, P.O.
