Gerda Powers

Gerda Powers, 79, of Barnegat, passed away on January 16, 2020, at home, with her beloved husband and family at her bedside. Born in Dahn, Germany, she was the last survivor in a family of six children. In 1965 she moved to Staten Island, New York. In 2005 Gerda relocated to the Mirage Community in Barnegat, New Jersey. Retaining her German citizenship, she became a United States citizen in 2002. She worked for several savings banks in New York City before retiring in 1993 as a Vice President. She held various positions in a prominent women's banking group in New York City, serving as President in 1988. She enjoyed traveling. She will long be remembered for her energy and zest for life. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward; sister-in-law, Theresa; cousin-in-law, John; three step-children, Edward, Diane and her husband, James, Bruce and his wife, Marilyn, and three step-grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Brian. She is also survived by nephews, nieces and their families, and other relatives in Germany. 

Viewing Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 7 to 9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat. Mass offered Friday 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Barnegat. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ. (www.BarnegatFH.com)
