George E. Thompson

It is with great sadness that the family of George E Thompson of Waretown, NJ announces his passing on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the age of 78 after a long and gallant battle with Cancer.  George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Virginia “Ginny” Thompson (Weigel) and his three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Jody, Donald and Mary and Daniel and Amanda.  His memory will be cherished by his six grandchildren - Nicholas, Matthew, Travis, Madison, Logan, Jackson and Lucas.  He will also be remembered by his life-long friend and brother-in-law, Bob Weigel.  George was predeceased by his parents George and Florence, his brother Edward and grandson Georgie.

Originally from Union City, NJ he moved with his wife and sons to Hazlet, NJ in 1971 and was active in many of his sons sporting endeavors.  A graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, NJ with a BS degree in business management he was employed by AT&T as a property manager and retired after 34 years of service.  Not a man to sit idle he continued working for 10 years at Kings Row, Middletown, NJ, as an assistant property manager.  He and his wife retired to Greenbriar Oceanaire, Waretown, NJ in 2007 where he enjoyed being an active part of the Oceanaire Men’s Club and Bocce Club.

His family and friends will remember him as a gentle and kind man who inspired everyone with his courageous fight with many health issues.  A celebration of his life will be on Thursday, October 11, 2018, 1:00 to 4:00 PM, at the Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ.  In lieu of flowers the family request a donation can be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
