It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mario Giacone, aged 84, on March 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Mario departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of enduring love and steadfast dedication to his family and community.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Mario embarked on a career as a tool and die maker before venturing into entrepreneurship with the founding of his own small trucking company. His industrious spirit and zest for life were evident in every endeavor he pursued.
The cornerstone of Mario's life was his beloved wife, Catena (Cathy). Their remarkable journey began in Bloomfield and spanned 64 years of shared dreams, challenges, and triumphs. Together, they relocated to Westfield, where they lovingly raised their four sons, nurturing a home filled with laughter, lessons, and love. In their retirement years, Mario and Cathy chose Barnegat as their haven, where Mario could often be seen enjoying the tranquility of Barnegat Bay aboard his prized 1973 Chris Craft, a testament to his passion for the sea and boating.
Mario's pride in his family was unparalleled. He leaves behind a legacy through his children, Mario, Mike (Jean), Mark, and Christopher, and his cherished grandchildren, Michael (Janie), Kelly, Zachary, Jake, and great-granddaughter, Olivia. His spirit of love, generosity, and strength will continue to inspire them.
Predeceased by his siblings Phil, Tony, Sam, Tina, and Frank, Mario's memory will also be cherished by his sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Mario's life was a testament to the values of hard work, devotion to family, and the simple joys of life. His memory will forever be a beacon of love and resilience for all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 West Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ. Mass offered Friday, 9:30 AM at St. Mary's Church, Barnegat. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manahawkin. (www.barnegatFH.com)
