Joyce D. (Demarest) James, 83, of Manahawkin passed June 14, 2017. She was born in Paterson, NJ, first lived in Midland Park, and graduated from Pompton Lakes High School. An expert in federal and state laws governing the care of special needs children, she served many years as an advocate supporting families in legal proceedings. With her husband Frank, she mastered the regulations of hazardous pharmaceutical disposal; they enjoyed eight successful years in business together running James Environmental Technology, Inc. in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Preceding her in death is her husband of 63 years, Frank James (1933-2017). Surviving are her four children and their spouses, Douglas and Pamela James, Kathleen and Mark Smith, Glenn and Patricia James, David James; five grandchildren and their spouses, Bethany James, Adam (Theresa) Smith, Bryan Smith, Christine (Christopher) Spaeth, Phillip (Debbie) James; three great grandchildren, Alexander and Christopher Marziale, and Isabelle Smith. Joyce had one brother, Robert “Buddy” Demarest (1930-1965).
Visitation Friday, June 23 from 9 to 10 AM at Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat. Mass will be celebrated Friday 11 AM at St. Mary of the Pines, Manahawkin. Interment follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin.
