Francis X. James, 87, of Manahawkin passed April 7, 2017. He was born in Rutherford, NJ, where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School and the Academy for Advanced Traffic (New York City). He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Detroit. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, Frank served in combat from December 1951 through December 1952 and was decorated with the Korean Service Medal (with 3 stars), the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal.
While residing in Budd Lake, NJ, Frank became a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Joyce Kilmer Council #2483, Hackettstown. Frank also participated in drum and bugle corps for decades, as a bugler, instructor, arranger, and judge, across the eastern U.S.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joyce (Demarest) James; four children and their spouses, Douglas and Pamela James, Kathleen and Mark Smith, Glenn and Patricia James, David James; five grandchildren and their spouses, Bethany (Patrick) Marziale, Adam (Theresa) Smith, Bryan Smith, Christine (Christopher) Spaeth, Phillip (Debbie) James; three great grandchildren, Alexander and Christopher Marziale, and Isabelle Smith. Originally one of ten children, Frank’s surviving siblings are Betty Ann Orio and Carolyn Cieszynski.
Frank’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 noon, Wednesday, April 12th, at St. Mary of the Pines, Manahawkin. Interment follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin.
